The following information was provided by the Westford Police Department. Anyone arrested is considered innocent unless proven guilty by a court of law.
May 17, 8:11 a.m. – A Lowell man required medical attention after an industrial accident at Fletcher’s Quarry.
Although the man was unable to explain the incident to police, as he could only speak Portuguese, his supervisor said that another employee was lifting a 15 ton boulder with a crane chain and the Portuguese man’s hand was trapped between the chain and the boulder at one point as it was being raised, pinning it.
According to the manger, the Portuguese man was a new employee.
The Portuguese man was transported to an unspecified hospital; Westford Police left a message with OSHA officials, who said they would investigate the incident in more detail.
May 18, 6:08 a.m. – Police responded to a motor vehicle accident near Tadmuck Auto Parts on Littleton Road.
A Honda Civic had hit a nearby telephone pole, suffering significant front end damage.
The driver of the vehicle did not show any signs of intoxication, but told police that he was unable to sleep the night before and was trying to get home quickly after spending the night at his girlfriend’s house.
On the way, he fell asleep at the wheel, moving the car across a lane of traffic into the pole.
Paramedics transported the man to an unnamed hospital, with police charging the man with unspecified charges related to negligent driving.
