Groton Road Monster Truck Is Up For Sale

Anyone driving down Groton Road over the past few years has probably seen it out of the corner of their eye: one man’s gigantic truck named after a children’s book character.

That truck is still there for now, but its owner is preparing to say goodbye to this unexpected Westford landmark.

DSC_0004Brian Visco has owned Clifford the Big Red Truck for 12 years, originally a Ford F250 Super Duty Crew Cab heavily modified into a showplace monster truck that is now for sale.

After 150 miles on the road, Visco began a series of four major upgrades to the truck that turned it from a street-legal vehicle into a highlight of local four wheel jamborees and car shows, getting its name at the Summer Nationals one year in Worcester.

“There was a guy there who asked if he could do lettering on the truck and he asked what its name was,” said Visco. “(my ex-girlfriend) just said Clifford, and the name stuck.”

Due to his job managing an archery store in Acton, the truck has largely sat idle in his driveway on Groton Road between Flushing Pond and Forrest roads.

However, when he has been able to bring it out in public, it’s certainly been a centerpiece of discussion.

“I’ve had a few cops at gas stations and other places make friends with me over the truck,” said Visco. “It certainly does stand out.”

Although he’s spent $70,000 on upgrades to the vehicle, Visco’s daughter is heading to college next year and he needs some money for that and possibly a more fuel efficient vehicle.

Despite that expenditure, currently he’s asking just $20,000.

“You don’t build them to make money, that’s for sure,” he said. “It’s not like a ’69 Camaro where you make them and make money off of what it is. Big trucks like that, you build them and you show them and you have fun with them, but don’t expect to make any money because it ain’t gonna happen.”
