Drew Farms Eliminated From Playoffs In Extra Innings

Willis Tent dispatched of Pro Sports Therapy in two straight playoff games and now moves into the semifinals of the playoffs against the Nashoba Valley Veterinarian Mustangs, a team that only lost once in the regular season. Shortcut Landscaping required three games, two of which went into extra innings, to beat Drew Farms and will now face second place Floral Arts in the semifinals, a best-of-five series.

Willis Tent 18, Pro Sports Therapy 3
On Sunday evening, Willis Tent eliminated Pro Sports Therapy with a big win in the second game of the series. Willis jumped out early with seven runs in the first inning, sparked by Dennis Kane’s leadoff home run. Willis put up seven more runs in the second inning and the game was effectively over, as PST only managed seven hits in the game. John Bodi, who collected two of the seven hits for PST, doubled in the fourth and then a double by Jerry Cressman drove Bodi in. Mark Pelosky then singled to drive in Cressman. Willis pitcher Dave Harrington kept PST off balance all game. Willis’ Rob Swinamer had two doubles and a home run.

Tom Menucci hit a walk-off home run to straightaway center field to help Drew Farms stave off elimination in the second game of the three-game playoff series on Sunday night. Drew Farms jumped out to a big lead and maintained it until seventh inning, when SCL tied it on the power of a Dave Sullivan home run. The game went to extra innings and then Menucci stepped up to the plate with two outs and delivered the game winner.

Shortcut Landscaping 20, Drew Farms 17
On Tuesday night, in the Game Three of the the three-game playoff series, Shortcut Landscaping needed extra innings to earn the victory over Drew Farms. Drew Farms had a 14-1 lead until the bottom of the third, when SCL put up 11 runs to close the gap. The game was notched at 17-17 in the ninth inning, when Jason Humphry and Chris Clark singled for SCL and then Brent Oakleaf hit a three-run walk-off home run. Todd Shepherd hit two home runs for Drew Farms in the loss. Tom Menucci, the hero of Game Two, tied the game in the sixth when he hit a three-run bomb to straightaway center. Both teams had chances to take the lead in the next couple of innings, but pitching and defense came up big when it mattered.
