Last week Westford became a member of the Middlesex 3 Coalition, a regional partnership focused on economic development.
Westford joined new members Tewksbury, Tyngsborough and Lexington into the alliance which already included Bedford, Billerica, Burlington, Lowell and Chelmsford.
“Middlesex 3 is excited to be growing within the Route 3 corridor,” said Bedford Town Manager Richard Reed. “Municipalities need to collaborate across borders combining their resources these days to achieve maximized benefits for their citizens.”
The new members were welcomed at an event that featured a panel of state and regional experts, highlighted by a keynote speech from Secretary of Housing and Economic Development Greg Bialecki.
“Massachusetts is on the cutting-edge among states in supporting the growth of 21st century manufacturing,” said Secretary Bialecki. “Together with our regional partners, we are ensuring the next generation is equipped with the skills and knowledge needed for careers in advanced manufacturing. Middlesex 3 Coalition has a strong contingent of municipalities, colleges and businesses working together to grow the advanced manufacturing sector, as well as other industries, and I congratulate them on their growth and wish them further success. ”
Westford Town Manager Jodi Ross believes that the town’s membership in the group, which was launched in 2013, would be a great opportunity for the town.
We look forward to bringing new and exciting prospects to the area, along with providing educational opportunities for our local businesses, and working together to improve the transportation issues along Route 3,” said Ross.
