Westford Youth SoccerOn Saturday, September 19th, the Westford U-6 Gray Mud Monsters played a fun and exciting games against the Light Green Dragons on Fields 1 and 2. On Field 1, Jacob Wu, Benjamin Desrochers, Rachel Newman, Abby Arria, Faith McMahon, and Abhiram Vuppuluri all played very hard as the team seemed to score at will.  Faith, Jacob, and Abhiram led the scoring while Rachel and Abby helped their teams move the ball.  Rachel, in a great effort, also added a few goals while Abby returned downfield to goalkeep.  On Field 2, Sarangan Parthibhan led the way in scoring with repeated break aways. Kasey Bostrom and Austin Kane played great defense as well as Kasey scoring once and Austin adding two more.  Teagan McElligott showed off her speed as she put the ball in the net and aided team efforts.  Cullen McElligott and Alana Powell also played great defense and Cullen did great keeping the ball out of the net!  Alana’s speed contributed to her great defensive effort.  Great team efforts from both the Gray Mud Monsters and Light Green Dragons!

Team Three 6, Tewskbury 3

Westford Girls U10 Team 3 played a great game against a slightly older Tewksbury team on a hot day at the Frasca Fields in Tewksbury. Audrey Smagula had an excellent first half in goal stopping several shots while goals by Erin Keefe, Kassidy Carmichael, and Marie Morris put the team up 3-0 in the first ten minutes of the game. Tewksbury and Westford alternated scoring during the rest of the half, each team adding two goals. Kassidy Carmichael and Olivia Dempster scored for Westford. As the morning heated up, the scoring slowed down. Tewksbury scored the first goal in the second half and Caroline Mallio scored the last goal for Westford at about the 33 minute mark.

During the game, the Westford players showed great versatility by each playing more than one position. Katie Krangle had a good day playing both offense and defense breaking up several Tewksbury scoring chances and Ava Russo helped control the center of the field with good play at middie. Sophie Krauss made several strong attacks from the wing and, at one point, Martha Khusid ran down a Tewksbury breakaway, stole the ball, and dribbled back to the Tewksbury end for a shot on goal.

Stoneham 9, Team Six 0

The Westford Winners put up a very courageous effort against Stoneham in their GU10 division matchupFriday night. Although the score got a little out of hand in favor of Stoneham, our girls fought hard and never gave up. In particular,Keira Grenier, Sophia Sacco, and Courtney Witsch were fearless against a physically overpowering opponent.
