Fire Department Responds To August Smoke Incident At J.V. Fletcher Library

The following information came from the Westford Fire Department. 

Aug. 18, 9:36 p.m. – A paramedic team went to the Residence Inn on Lan Drive to help a man who allegedly fell. The man refused treatment.

Aug. 20, 9:57 p.m. – One homeowner on Cheyenne Valley reported a smoke detector alarm, but upon arrival no detectors were sounding. Firefighters provided information to the homeowner on regarding smoke detectors.

Aug. 17, 8:42 a.m. – Three units responded to a reported methane-fueled fire at Graniteville Woods.

However, firefighters could not find any fire after arriving at the location. They talked with a worker in the area who said that they were raising manhole covers earlier and the gas created a fireball when it came in contact with an electric jack hammer.

One worker had burnt arm hair, but denied medical treatment. No lingering methane was detected.

Aug. 22, 1:24 p.m. – A trouble alarm was issued from Public Storage on Littleton Road. After investigation, it was deemed to be a false alarm.

Aug. 21, 4:16 p.m. – Firefighters responded reports of a smoke detector problem on Oak Hill Road. The smoke detector was determined to be faulty and the homeowner was advised to replace it.

Aug. 21, 5:03 p.m. – Four units were dispatched to the J.V. Fletcher Library after reports of smoke in the building.

The building was evacuated and no smoke or fire was discovered after an investigation. However, an odor was found coming from hydraulic fluid in the elevator room.
