U6 Gray Team

Submitted by Tom Arria

On Saturday, October 17th, the Westford U-6 Gray Dolphins played a fun game against the U6 Purple team on Fields 1 and 2. On Field 1, the line of Cullen McElligott, Teagan McElligott, and Abby Arria led the scoring.  Cullen seemed to score at will.  Equally effective was the line of Faith McMahon, Kasey Bostrom, and Austin Kane who also scored often and played hard.  Most notable on Field 1 was implementing the practice drills to increasing passing and scoring! Great team effort on Field 1! On Field 2, Jacob Wu led the way in scoring with several goals.  The team did a great job in passing the ball and Rachel Newman, Abhiram Vuppuluri, Sarangan Parthibhan taking multiple shots at the goal.  Alana Powell came in and played great defense while getting the ball to her teammates successfully in several occasions.  Great job by the Gray Dolphins and Purple team!

Girls’ U10 Team Three 3, Billerica 0

Submitted by Andy Mallio, Written by Ben Foley

Despite the cold, the Westford U10-T3 girls team shut out Billerica with a 3-0 win at Jack Walsh Field in Westford. Audrey Smagula and Sophie Krauss each had an amazing game as goalkeepers acting as bricks walls keeping Billerica off the scoreboard. Striker Olivia Dempster scored the only goal in the first half with a beautiful goal. Kassidy Carmichael and Erin Keefe each found the back of the net in the second half with Caroline Mallio and Sarah Foley assisting on each goal respectively. Marie Morris played solid defense contributing to the shutout. Midfielders Katie Krangle, Martha Khusid and Ava Russo kept the ball consistently in Billerica’s end with their strong and accurate passing. The great effort by both teams made it an exciting game to watch.

Girls’ U10 Team Three 2, Lowell 1

The Westford Girls U10 Team 3 played a great second game of the weekend against a very well-coached Lowell team at the Edwards Fields in Lowell. This game had the makings of a classic match-up and it did not disappoint. Despite missing four regular players off their roster the Westford girls team was able to pull out a win with a few added players from Westford’s U10 Team 6. Audrey Smagula had another excellent first half in goal while the strong defense of Sophie Krauss kept Lowell’s forwards from getting many clear scoring chances. The lone scoring of the first half came from Olivia Dempster who put it in on a nice shot past the Lowell keeper. Martha Khusid and Caroline Mallio each had great games controlling the midfield distributing the ball to strikers Erin Keefe and Ava Russo who each had several scoring chances that were stopped by Lowell’s excellent goalkeeping. Alexa Pantoja and Erin Mammola each filled in nicely in midfield and defense containing the Lowell players with their hussle and applying pressure.
Westford’s second goal of the game came from Olivia Dempster again who put it in the back of the net on a nice shot with her opposite foot. Ava Janko filled in nicely on defense thwarting several Lowell chances as they pressed in the second half scoring their only goal with minutes remaining.

The Westford U10 Boys – Destroyers continue to improve each week. Saturday, the boys beat Dracut 6-1 on the road.  The Destroyers started slow, with Dracut opening the scoring.  Fredrick Thiruthuvadas had a hat-trick, scoring 3 goals in the game.  Aviral Agarwal added 2 goals.  Ethan Koehr was determined to score the final goal in the second half after playing goalie in the first.  Aiden Emanuel played an aggressive game on offense in the first, then stepped into goal in the second to disallow additional goals from Dracut.  Isak Bloom, Tristan Caldwell, Andrew Tang and Sanjay Vijayabala pushed the ball up the field well.  While Bhavik Kancharla, Nathaniel Li and Brian Ma held a strong defensively line.

Chelmsford 6, Boys’ U12 Team Four 1

Submitted by Dave Sacco

While the score got away from the Winners, their effort was to be commended. They played with spirit and energy in the first half and held the score to 1-2, with Erin Mammola scoring the lone goal, assisted by Courtney Witsch and Maddie York. Erin’s initial shot was blocked, but she buried the rebound.
Ava Janko and Keira Grenier played goalie each half and made some outstanding saves. Others with standout performances: Alexa Pantoja, Maddie York, and Sofia Cannistraro.
