Dr. Judith Klimkiewicz has announced that she will retire from her role of superintendent of the Nashoba Valley Technical High School School District.
Klimkiewicz will remain in the role until a new superintendent is announced, most likely at least until January 2016, almost 20 years after she began with the school.
“Dr. Klimkiewicz’s vision for Nashoba Tech and vocational-technical education is evidenced in the impressive comeback of the school over the last 20 years,” said Jennifer Rhodes, chairwoman of the Nashoba Tech School Committee. “She will be sorely missed, but the school is prepared to take on the next 20 years thanks to her vision and dedication.”
Klimkiewicz began her educational career in 1974 as a teacher in Wakefield with the Northeast Metropolitan Regional Vocational School District, leaving 20 years later as the district’s director of curriculum.
She was then hired by the Massachusetts Department of Education to help with reform initiatives, leaving two years later to take the position of superintendent at Nashoba Tech.
During Klimkiewicz’s tenure, Nashoba Tech has seen a $25 million expansion of the school, a new Science and Technology wing and Performing Arts wing, nearly a dozen new educational programs, and a doubling in school enrollment.
“I don’t think any other school has done what we’ve done here,” she said. “It’s hard to say goodbye, but it’s time.”
