On Sunday, March 13th, the Chelmsford Community Concert Band and Jazz Ensemble will together celebrate the sounds of the Jazz and Swing era by performing a joint concert that will not only exhibit each group separately, but will also feature something new: a combined ensemble with all of the musicians performing a piece together under one baton.

Chelmsford Community BandThe music starts at 2pm at the Chelmsford Senior Center, 75 Groton Road, in North Chelmsford.  The program features the music of Duke Ellington and Cole Porter, as well as the fantastic piece “Rhapsody for Concert Band and Jazz Ensemble,” which will bring both groups together for the first time on one stage.  Concert admission is free, but donations are gratefully accepted and will aid the band’s fundraising drive to expand their percussion equipment.  Baked goods will also be for sale.

The Chelmsford Community Band was founded in 1972 as a volunteer group of adult musicians who greatly enjoy bringing live music to the greater Chelmsford area.  The Concert Band and Jazz Ensemble each perform several concerts throughout the year and on Chelmsford Common every summer.  Their next concerts will be on May 15th at the Chelmsford Elks and on June
11th in Faneuil Hall for the Boston Festival of Bands.
