A three-alarm fire erupted next to the Roudenbush Community Center early on Tuesday morning, taking several hours to put out.
The fire began at 4:33 a.m. at 63 Main St. and eventually grew, requiring assistance from fire units from Chelmsford, Groton, Ayer, Acton, Devens, Littleton and Tyngsborough with engine and ladder companies arriving from Lowell.
Westford Police closed Main Street from Forge Village Road to Depot Street until approximately 8 a.m.
The Westford Fire Department has reported extensive damage to the attic, but no injuries occurred due to the fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Town officials are informing nearby residents that there may be some water discoloration coming out of faucets nearby and this can be resolved by running the cold water faucet for several minutes.
Town hall and the J.V. Fletcher Library are scheduled to open at 11 a.m.
