WCAT Begins Search for Next News Director

Do you have a love for the people and the places in this great town of Westford? Can you write articles, take pictures, post updates and teasers on social media websites, and produce a daily online newsletter?

WestfordCAT is looking for our next news director, who will create the content used in our WestfordCAT News program along with the weekday publishing of WestfordCAT News Online. Our news director is the primary contact for news tips and happenings in our community. They alert staff on breaking news and upcoming events and identify opportunities for getting WestfordCAT members involved in community journalism.

Major duties include:

  1. Maintaining the WestfordCAT News Online website and our daily news subscription service, with daily update posts on events and happenings in Westford.
  1. Alerting staff on breaking news and upcoming community events for possible inclusion in our bi-weekly news program or in another program that is either staff or member produced.
  1. Working with our production team on crew requirements for upcoming events and news segments for our weekly news program. You will need to track items being covered and their crew assignments and also keep track of upcoming events and news items that could use coverage in a future news program in our weekly staff/news meetings.
  2. Writing and distributing scripts for news anchors and overseeing the production process for the weekly news program, adhering to schedules, deadlines and the overall rollout of each episode to the public.
  3. Maintaining contact with community organizations, utilizing our Marketing Outreach Manager’s weekly e-blasts and station’s promotional activities. Engage membership involvement in community journalism by offering training, workshops and other membership events and forums.

Other duties include:

  1. Assisting with studio and field productions, as needed.
  1. Assisting with WestfordCAT.org website updating, troubleshooting, coordination and integration with WestfordCATnews.org and enhancement planning.
  1. As with all staff, contribute to the orderly and clean appearance of our facility and work areas.

Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:

  1. a BS degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism or related field
  2. Two or more years experience in journalism, writing and marketing/business. Experience with social media tools such as Facebook and Twitter.
  3. Familiarity with email outreach programs like MailChimp or Constant Contact. Experience with YouTube’s video manager features, WordPress content management, and Google Analytics.

Other key competencies are:

  1. Effective Writing and Computer Skills
  2. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and WordPress
  3. Superior Interpersonal Communication Skills
  4. Outbound Marketing Skills
