The following Westford Academy students were recently recognized by educators:

Nihar Sheth, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kalpesh Sheth, was named Student of the Month for Second Quarter.  Michael J. Parent, Dean of Students, nominated Nihar in the area of Academics.  Parent writes: “Nihar Sheth, a member of the Class of 2017 has been nominated for Student of the Month. Nihar was the chairperson and driving force behind a presentation entitled ‘Empower the Blind.’  Nihar presented to over 400 freshmen during an Advisory Day, highlighting the awareness of a medical procedure that enables people to see. During the past three years, Nihar has been active in numerous fundraising activities for this organization.  During his recent presentation, he raised $745.00, which accounts for two of these medical procedures to be performed.  Nihar is an Honor Roll student and has been active with DECA, Quiz Bowl and the Economics Club.  Nihar is considering Harvard, MIT, and Duke as college choices and is undecided on whether to pursue a degree in Computer Science or Business.”

Cam Eldridge, son of Mr. Ken Eldridge was named Student of the Month. Bruce Rich, Cam’s Varsity Wrestling coach, nominated Eldridge in the area of Athletics. Rich writes: “Cam Eldridge is one of the toughest, hardest-working competitors I have ever coached.  He has been a dominant contributor to the varsity wrestling team since his freshman year.  When he first came to wrestling practice as a freshman, I knew he had the right attitude and toughness to be a strong asset for us but he has by far exceeded my expectations.  Not only does he possess the athletic skills needed to be an excellent wrestler, but it is evident Cam also has the qualities of a great leader. This was shown when his teammates unanimously voted him to be a captain in both his junior and senior years.  During competitions, Cam is always up rooting for his teammates and encouraging them to be at their best. At practices, he is the hardest worker and is always pushing himself to become a better wrestler. As a junior he was a state finalist, Dual County League All Star, and was selected team MVP.  Currently, in his senior season, he has a record of 28-4.  He placed first at the Tyngsborough Big Red Tournament, third at the Chelmsford Invitational, and last week he won his 100th career match. Cam will leave Westford Academy as one of the most accomplished wrestlers in school history.”

Carolyn Hitelman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Hitelman and Victoria Lee, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Juqui Huo, were named Students of the Month during Quarter Two. Kristin Gillett, Spanish Club Advisor, nominated them in the area of Co-Curricular.  Mrs. Gillett writes: “Carolyn and Victoria, have led the club for the past year-and-a-half, and are finishing up their terms this month. They have continued with the tradition of a vibrant, engaged club and have been incredibly conscientious, strong leaders, planning engaging meetings twice per month, and a number of out-of-school activities, including the huge task of the holiday bazaar. I never had to worry about things getting done, or if the club meetings would be enjoyable. They planned events to appeal to all students interested in German language and culture. It has been a pleasure working with them, and next terms president has some very big shoes to fill.”
