Turn up the volume—Symphony® is expected to deliver a great performance!

The J. V. Fletcher Library and the Merrimack Valley Library Consortium are proud to announce Symphony®, an expanded online catalog system that will be music to your ears! Starting May 18, the Library’s new online catalog will ready for you to use without missing a beat. With the Symphony catalog you will have: improved search functions (it will be user-friendly and ask you “Did you mean….” if you misspell an author or title;) personalized lists and suggestions; multiple language capabilities; the ability to download eBooks and eAudiobooks without ever leaving the catalog and it will allow you to make online payments with a credit card for fees, fines and lost materials. Anyone with a current library card will be able to check out all that Symphony has to offer by simply logging in to the catalog via the library’s home page. Symphony is one musical act you don’t want to miss!

New Database: LYNDA.Com!: Lynda.com is an online learning site that hosts a constantly growing library of over 5,600 courses that include over 180,000 videos. Courses cover a variety of topics (including business, design, web development and multimedia skills) and software (Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite and open source applications) that can help you pursue personal and professional goals. These courses are delivered by expert instructors and feature searchable transcripts that make it easy to find quick answers to questions. They also feature Certificates of Completion that can be uploaded to a LinkedIn profile. This database can be used from the Library or from your home. Just go to the Library’s online home page, click on “Databases” from the left hand menu, choose “Alphabetical Listing of Databases” and scroll down to LYNDA.com. Once logged in you will be asked to create an account so you can save your lessons.

The Friends of the J. V. Fletcher Library, Inc. Book Sales are held three times a year at the Library. These Book Sales are an important fundraiser for the Friends who in turn fund almost all non-Librarian run programs and events for all Departments of the Library. Currently, the Friends need donations for their upcoming June ( 9-11) Book Sale. Specifically, the Friends need: hardback and paperback books (both fiction and non-fiction); DVD’s; Audiobooks; LP records and audio cassette tapes. Please only donate items that are in good condition. When the Library is open donated items can be left at the Janiece Greenberg Room door; it’s to the left immediately after you enter the library’s back entrance from the parking lot. When the Library is closed, please leave donations in the large, marked container near the rear entrance. Donations to the Friends’ Book Sales are tax deductible; receipts are available from the Librarians at the Main Desk on the first floor of the Library.

Look for the Library’s entry in the Apple Blossom Parade on Saturday, May 13. The highly anticipated annual Westford Kiwanis Sponsored Apple Blossom Parade will march along Main Street for the 49th time. Traditionally this is the event where the Library Children’s Department’s entry in the Parade “announces” the theme for their upcoming Children’s Summer Reading Program. We hope to see you there.
