In Observance of Memorial Day the Library will be closed on Saturday, May 27 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Monday, May 29 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. The Library will reopen on Tuesday, May 30 at 10 a.m.

Quadcopter Drones: How Did We Get Here and Where are We Going?: Tuesday, June 6 at  7 p.m. Looking forward to the day a drone drops down from above to deliver your pizza?  Consumer drones, especially quadcopters, are becoming increasingly popular.  During this hour-long discussion, Dr. Bernie Malouin will review some of the key technology developments that make drones work.  He will even pop the hood on one of today’s most popular quadcopters and explain what’s inside.  Finally, he’ll talk a little bit about some of the exciting capabilities that await us.  No registration required.

The Friends of the J. V. Library, Inc. June Book Sale is on the horizon: Friday, June 9, Saturday, June 10 and Sunday, June 11.  A Friends Members Only Sale will be held on Friday evening from 6:30 to 9 p.m.  A Friends membership (which may be purchased at the door) is necessary for attending the Members Only Sale.  The entire public is invited to the all day Saturday sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and to the Sunday half-price extravaganza sale from 2 to 4 p.m. The June Book Sale offers the perfect opportunity to stock up on vacation and summer reading.

“Reading is Awesome” will be the 2017 Children’s Summer Reading Program theme. Registration begins May 30 for this Friends’ funded Program You can sign up for events and shows at the same time that you register. Some events require tickets for children, parents, and/or caregivers while others are free drop-in. Please call, visit the Youth Services Department, or check out the Children’s Summer Reading Program page on our website for more information on this exciting summer-long FUN spree.

Calling all Teens and Tweens in grades 5 to 8! Sign-up for the Fletcher Library’s 2017 Teen Summer Reading Program and “Build a Better World.”  Register for this Friends-supported program starting May 30 at the Fletcher Library.  And then sign-up for summer events online on the Library’s homepage or through the YA Zone webpage.

“Build a Better World” will be the 2017 Adult Summer Reading Program theme. Why not have some fun and sign up for the Adult Summer Reading Program. It is easy just sign up at any public service desk or by calling the Information department at 978-399-2304, then choose any goal for your summer reading (3 books, read a newspaper once a week, “War and Peace”). Once you have completed your goal, stop by the Information Desk for a gift certificate for a free kiddie cone at Kimball Farm.  Every week during the program, we will give away gift certificates to Barnes and Noble and a grand prize drawing for a gift certificate to a local restaurant.  Summer Reading Programs aren’t just for kids! The adult summer reading program is generously sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
