State Rep. James Arciero and State Sen. Eileen Donoghue, both members of the Joint Committee on Export Development, recently met with former United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon at the State House.

The meeting agenda was a discussion of the current global economy and the role of Massachusetts in international trade. Ki-Moon was elected Secretary General of the United Nations in 2006 and served until 2016. He is a graduate of the Harvard Kennedy School and holds a master’s degree in Public Administration.

During his tenure, he advocated for humanitarian policies and world peace based on building coalitions of different nations, religious groups, non-governmental organizations and the international business community. A highlight of his term in office was the signing of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.

Donoghue is the Senate chairwoman of the committee and Arciero serves as the House vice-chairman.
