Town Moderator Susan Spuhler has exactly 11 goats on her property this week.

The goats are being rented from Central Massachusetts Goat Rental of Lunenberg where Tammy and Seth Hebert live. The couple started their goat rental business a year ago and since then have had their goats on loan in Westford at least twice: once at the 9-acre Drew Garden parcel at 66 Boston Road; and now at Spuhler’s house on Concord Road where she and husband, Tom, own 3 acres.

“They’re clearing the vegetation and the poison ivy and the bittersweet,” said Spuhler, of the goats. “All the invasive plants.”

Spuhler has a pond to the south of her driveway and she wants the vegetation cleared to “make it a safer environment” for anyone heading down the slight decline to her row boat.

Hebert estimates the job will take about a week.

Pricing the job is the tricky part said Hebert.

“Every property is different. We have to base it on the amount of the vegetation and the size of the area,” she said.
