Marilyn Frank of Westford was recently named the 2017 Westford Unsung Heroine by the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women at the 14th annual ceremony held at the State House.

Nominated by state Rep. James Arciero, Frank was recognized for her many contributions to the community of Westford where she has been a local volunteer for the past 40 years.

The purpose of the Unsung Heroine award is to identify and recognize extraordinary women from across the Commonwealth who make a difference in their communities. Following addresses by Speaker of the House Robert DeLeo and Senate President Stanley Rosenberg, the biography of the awardees are read and a luncheon provided in a ceremony held in the Great Hall at the State House.

Asked about this year’s recipient, Arciero said. “It was truly an honor to nominate my good friend Marilyn for the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women Unsung Heroine Award. Marilyn is a wonderful person who has always given so much to the community of Westford. She has always been a very close friend and I was honored to nominate her for this prestigious award.”

As part of the special event, a House Resolution marking the occasion was presented for Marilyn’s many civic activities over the years. Accompanying Frank to the ceremony was her husband, Robert Frank, and daughter-in-law Marianne Fleckner, also of Westford.
