In Observance of Columbus Day the library will be closed on Monday, Oct. 9, from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. The Library will re-open on Tuesday, October 10 at 10 a.m.

The Friends October Book Sale is on the horizon: Mark your calendars for the weekend of Friday, Oct. 13, Saturday, Oct. 14 and Sunday, Oct. 15. A Friends Members Only Sale will be held on Friday evening from 6:30 to 9 p.m.  A Friends membership (which may be purchased at the door) is necessary for attending the preview sale.  The entire public is invited Saturday for an all-day sale, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and to the special half price extravaganza on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m.

Drop-in Diwali Craft: Tuesday, Oct. 10 from 12 to 2 p.m.  Fun activity for a Westford schools no school day. Make a sparkly ragnoli design and decorate a diya. The crafts are for ages 4 and up – younger kids can come and color ragnoli designs. Free! No registration required.

The Cookbook Book Club is dedicated to exploring cookbooks and sampling new recipes. Come join us on Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m. Copies of this month’s choice, Barefoot Contessa Parties!, by Ina Garten are available for check out at the Main Desk. If you would like to bring a dish from the cookbook (not required to participate), please contact Sarah Regan in the Information Services Department at 978-399-2309. The Cookbook Book Club is funded by the Friends of the Library. No registration required.

 J.V. Fletcher Adult Book Discussion Group: Thursday, Oct. 12 at 7:30 p.m.  Join us to discuss “Lisette’s List” by Susan Vreeland. Copies of the current reading selection are available for check-out at the Main Desk.  New Members are always welcome! No registration required.

 India Through Literature Series with Professor Bruce Browne: Monday, Oct. 16 at 1 p.m. Books provide an interesting and direct way to experience a culture; our fall book series on India presents a variety of perspectives on a complex country. All book discussions will be augmented with music and film clips that touch on themes of the text. Monday, Oct. 16, 1-2:30 p.m. “The Inheritance of Loss” by Kiran Desai, Monday, Nov. 20, 1-2:30 p.m. “Sideways on a Scooter” by Miranda Kennedy, Monday, Dec. 18, 1-2:30 p.m. “Indian Summer: the Secret History of the End of an Empire” by Alex von Tunzelmann. Copies of the current selection are available for checkout at the Main Desk. No registration required. This program is generously funded by the Friends of the Library.
