On Monday, Oct. 23, the Westford School Committee met to discuss and vote on a new transgender policy for all ages in Westford schools.  The room was filled to capacity with proponents and opponents.  It was clear that our Westford School Committee concerned themselves with only one side of this issue.

They showed very little understanding to the many parents concerned about the privacy and safety rights of their children. One of the members told parents they just needed to “get more educated” on the transgender issue.

In addition, a member of the committee mentioned that education on this issue starts in the home.  She said that if your daughter is uncomfortable around boys in the bathroom, she needs to be more educated by her parents.

This kind of response is outrageous and ignorant.  Do the School Committee members really expect that parents are going home to train their kids that their gender is determined by what they think instead of their biology?  In addition, one of the School Committee members referred to traditional male and female students as “Cis-Gender.”  Is it now politically incorrect or wrong to refer to students as male and female?  Such peculiar vocabulary exposes their bias toward the transgender agenda.
Lastly, one of the committee members mentioned that a student would be disciplined if they changed gender from day to day for their own pleasure. The very definition of transgender refers to a sincerely held belief that can change day to day.  The “educated” committee member mentioned that the decision to become transgender doesn’t work like that.  Perhaps she hasn’t read the homework assignment we have found in Massachusetts public schools that clearly states, “Mark how you identify on each line, but don’t feel limited.  It’s OK to mark something different tomorrow.”
If you are concerned about the privacy of your child in the public bathroom or shower, your parental rights to know who is counseling your child at school, the safety and competitive fairness on your daughter’s sports team, or penalties for “discriminating” by using the wrong pronoun; let us know.  Actions are being brought against school districts across the country in the interest of the students that feel their traditional privacy and safety are being compromised. UPDATE – Editor’s note: The letter writer uses the word “transgender” to refer to a student who changes gender from one day to the next. The correct term is “gender fluid.”

In addition, when pressed for documentation of a public school “homework athe next dassignment” that tells students it’s OK to choose a different gender from one day to the next, Mr. King sent the document posted above.
