The installation of the two decorative crosswalks at Westford Common the end of November culminates the work of the Town Center Parking and Traffic Committee.
The committee is pleased to recognize the generosity of the Parish Center for the Arts and the Common Restoration Project which funded the two brick-like crosswalks. Without this generous offering the crosswalks could not have been installed.
Early in its deliberations, the committee unanimously endorsed this style of crosswalk as being most fitting with the work done by the Common Restoration Project over the past 20 years. The crosswalks are an inlaid resin, colored through with a red brick color and stamped in a brick pattern. They are non-slip and will last for many, many years.
But the Complete Streets grant money received from the state was not enough to pay Felix A. Marino Company of Peabody to do the crosswalks.
That was when the two donors came forth.
Our thanks to both the PCA board and the Common Restoration Project for supporting the center traffic calming project in this way, and to Highway Superintendent Chip Barrett, Town Engineer Paul Starratt and Town Manager Jodi Ross for saying, “Yes,” when we pushed very hard for the crosswalks. — Gail Flannery, co-chairman of the Town Center Parking and Traffic Committee
Editor’s Note: According to Gail Flannery, the grant raised just under $400K. Marino Company was paid $4,666 for each crosswalk.
