State Rep. James Arciero recently met with a group of residents from the Westford League of Women Voters and Westford Indivisible regarding legislation to implement a voter registration modernization bill.
Specifically, the legislation, House bill 2091: An Act Automatically Registering Eligible Voters And Enhancing Safeguards Against Fraud, would allow for state agencies to register voters from information they receive in conducting services. The information would be matched to a federal database system to insure that the new voters are eligible to be registered and not registered in another jurisdiction. Currently, there are more than 700,000 Massachusetts residents who are qualified to be registered but are not on the voting registration lists. Arciero is a co-sponsor of the bill with more than 100 of his House and Senate colleagues. The bill is currently before the Joint Committee on Election Laws for review.
