Friends of the Library Book Sale: The Friends of the J.V. Fletcher Library, Inc. will be holding a book sale on Saturday, Feb. 10 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 11 from 2 to 4 p.m.  On Sunday all materials will be offered at half price. There will be a preview sale for Friends members only on Friday, Feb. 9 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Memberships will be available at the door. Please note that scanners may not be used on Friday but are welcome on Saturday and Sunday. The sale will include over 15,000 books plus CDs, LPs/vinyl, audio books, and DVDs.  Regular prices are 50 cents and up for paperbacks and $1 and up for hardcover books. We are now accepting credit card payments in addition to checks and cash.

J.V. Fletcher Library Participating in MBLC and Bruins PJ Drive: The J.V. Fletcher Library has teamed up with the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners and the Boston Bruins to participate in their annual pajama drive to benefit DCF Kids and Cradles to Crayons. The PJ Drive’s goal is to collect 15,000 pairs of new pajamas for children and teens in need. The PJ Drive runs from Feb. 1 through March 15. The library will be collecting new pairs of pajamas for babies, children and teens. The drop off bin is located across from the Main Desk.

 Lego® Club: Saturday, Feb. 3 from 2 to 3 p.m.  Come create something fun with Library Legos. All creations will be displayed in the library until the next meeting. Free drop-in for ages 5 and up with parent or caregiver.

Teen and Tween Make & Take Mondays: Monday, Feb. 5 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Imagine, create, and participate! Each Monday teens will participate in a variety of hands-on activities that will include making fun, seasonal crafts, exploring STEAM activities, and/or creating one-of-a-kind masterpieces.  All materials will be provided at the program in the Library’s Meeting Room. This week participants will make Spinning Nerf Gun targets and glitter clothespin snowflakes. This is a free, drop-in event.  Registration not required.

 Book Purse Craft: Saturday, Feb. 17 at 1 p.m. Crafter Elaine Sousa will lead participants in creating a purse made out of a book cover. All materials are provided. Participants should bring scissors appropriate for cutting material. Registration required.

Teen and Tween Big Games: Tuesday, Feb. 20 from 1  to 3 p.m. Teens and tweens in grades 5 to 12 are invited to  play “BIG” Indoor Games. Snacks will be served.  Registration required for this free program. Teens and tweens can register online, by phone, or in person.

Cookbook Book Club: Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. The Cookbook Book Club is dedicated to exploring cookbooks and sampling new recipes. Copies of this month’s choice, Jerusalem a Cookbook, by Yotam Ottolenghi are available for check out at the Main Desk. If participants would like to bring a dish from the cookbook (not required to participate), they should contact Sarah Regan in the Information Services Department at 978-399-2309. The Cookbook Book Club is funded by the Friends of the Library. No registration required

On Silent Wings: The Magic of the Snowy Owl: Thursday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. Wildlife Photographer Peter Christoph shares his rare and intimate photographs of the snowy owls taken in their winter habitat. Several of his snowy owl photos have earned national and international awards. No registration required. Open to all ages.

J.V. Fletcher Digital Archive: The Library now has digital copies of The Jubb Brothers Civil War Letters and The Rustic (A newspaper that included local news from Westford and surrounding towns for the year 1885.) Librians will also be digitizing the library’s microfilm collection of The Westford Eagle. Currently librarians have digitized copies of The Westford Eagle from 1970-1973. For issues of The Westford Eagle from 2005 to the present, residents are asked to refer to the Databases page. English Conversation Circle – Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. Residents are encouraged to practice their English conversation skills and meet new friends in a relaxed and friendly environment. This program meets every Tuesday morning from 10:30-11:30 a.m. in the Mary Atwood room.  The group is led by Carol Morse. Registration is not required for this program.
