What’s Happening at the J.V. Fletcher Library

In Observance of Patriot’s Day the library will be closed on Monday, April 16 from 10 a.m. to 9 pm. The Library will re-open on Tuesday, April 17 at 10 a.m.

April School Vacation Week – All programs are generously funded by the Friends of the Library:

Peeps Diorama Competition: Tuesday, April 17 at 1 p.m. Teen & Tween participants will work together in groups of 2 or 3 and create a Peeps Diorama (or scene).  Prizes will be awarded for the top three dioramas and all materials will be provided.  Registration required for this free program. Teens and tweens in grades 5 to 12 can register online, by phone, or in person.

 Cookbook Book Club: Tuesday, April 17 at 7 p.m. The Cookbook Book Club is dedicated to exploring cookbooks and sampling new recipes. Copies of this month’s choice, Arabesque, by Claudia Roden are available for check out at the Main Desk. Participants who would like to bring a dish from the cookbook (not required to participate), are asked to contact Sarah Regan in the Information Services Department at 978-399-2309. No registration required.

Reptiles Rock: Wednesday, April 18 at 11 a.m. Get up close with a variety of amphibian creatures. This program will feature a petting zoo with smaller animals and a special presentation featuring four larger animals, including a very large snake and an American alligator. This free program is funded by the KDK Memorial Foundation (in honor of Kurt Kelly). Free tickets for children ages 5 and up with their caregivers will be available for pick up in the Children’s Department.

Stuffed Animal Spa: Thursday, April 19 at 11 a.m. Participants can bring their favorite stuffed animal to this drop-in program for a very special spa day that includes a checkup station, a spa treatment, pictures, and a craft project. They will also meet someone from the Lowell Humane Society who will tell them all about collars, micro chipping a pet, what to do if a pet goes missing, or if a lost pet is found. The program is free-of-charge. Drop in.

 Food Art Competition: Wednesday, April 19 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.  Teen & Tween participants will work on individual Food Art scenes and/or sculptures.  Prizes will be awarded for the top three dioramas and all materials will be provided. Registration required for this free program. Teens and tweens in grades 5 to 12 can register online, by phone, or in person.

Life Cycle Gardening: Gardening for a Lifetime with Master Gardener, Betty Sanders: Thursday, April 26 at 7 p.m. Reconfiguring a garden for new uses as a family grows and life and interests change, makes sense and may be less work than one might think. It’s a matter of plant selection and design, and will enhance one’s garden enjoyment for years. Register through our website or the Information Services Department at 978-399-2304.
