State Rep. James Arciero recently met with Katie Mitrano of Westford, a junior and president of the Student Government Association at UMASS Boston, who was at the State House advocating for several bills regarding sexual and gender-based violence on college campuses.

As part of her advocacy work, she supports several legislative proposals currently before the House of Representatives. One measure, House Bill 632, would require all institutions of higher education to create comprehensive policies and procedures on sexual and gender-based violence on college campuses.

In addition, the proposal would create prevention programs, training for students, faculty and staff, establish relationships with rape crisis centers, and most importantly create awareness for the issue. The bill also focuses on other college campus issues such as dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking.
