State Rep. James Arciero recently attended the Westford Girl Scout’s Annual Bridging and Award Ceremony held at the Abbot School, where Kyla Schultz of Westford Girl Scout Troop 60560 earned the prestigious Gold Award.

The Gold Award is the highest award given by the Girl Scouts of America and is the culmination of a rigorous effort by young women to demonstrate remarkable creativity and leadership skills while creating sustainable change to address the root cause of an issue in a community.

Of all the girls who are eligible for the award nationally, only 13 percent complete the process to earn the distinctive honor. Each effort requires more than 80 hours of service and such projects fulfill the Girl Scout mission of making the world a better place.

Schultz’ project focused on the issue of Lyme Disease and tick borne illness awareness and prevention.  Arciero presented Schultz with an official citation of the Massachusetts House of Representatives to mark the occasion.
