“Libraries Rock” is the 2018 Adult Summer Reading Program theme! Residents can sign up at any public service desk, from the library website, or by calling the Information department at 978-399-2304, then choose any goal for their summer reading (three books, read a newspaper once a week, “Grapes of Wrath”). Once they have completed their goal, they can stop by the Information Desk for a gift certificate for a free kiddie cone at Kimball Farm. Every week during the program, librarians will give away gift certificates to Barnes and Noble and a grand prize drawing for a gift certificate to a local restaurant. Summer Reading Programs aren’t just for kids. The adult summer reading program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
“Readers Rock” is the 2018 Children’s Summer Reading Program theme. Registration is ongoing for this Friends’ funded Program. Residents can sign up for events and shows at the same time that they register. Some events require tickets for children, parents, and/or caregivers while others are free drop-in. Residents are asked to call, visit the Youth Services Department, or check out the Children’s Summer Reading Program page on the library website for more information.
Calling all Teens and Tweens in grades 5 to 8. “Libraries Rock” is also the theme for the Fletcher Library’s 2018 Teen Summer Reading program. Register for this Friends-supported program in the Youth Services Department. Residents can sign-up for summer events online on the library’s homepage or through the YA Zone webpage.
Ukulele Strum-Along: You Learn to Play by Playing: Saturday, June 16 at 2 p.m. Focusing on two and three chord songs, this program is for the beginner ukulele player who wants to practice and play music with others. Singing is encouraged. Ukuleles available to borrow, songs projected onto a screen so no music stands or books necessary. Open to adults and teens. Please note, there will be no Ukulele Strum-Alongs in July or August but they will resume in September.
Cookbook Book Club: Tuesday, June 19 at 7 p.m. The Cookbook Book Club is dedicated to exploring cookbooks and sampling new recipes. Copies of this month’s choice, Tapas: A Taste of Spain in America by José Andrés, are available for check out at the Main Desk. Residents who would like to bring a dish from the cookbook (not required to participate), are asked to contact Sarah Regan in the Information Services Department at 978-399-2309. No registration required. Please note that as of July 2018, the club is moving to the third Thursday of the month.
Monday Mystery Book Club: Monday, June 25 at 10:30 a.m. The club meets once a month on Monday morning at 10:30 a.m. in the Mary Atwood Room. This month’s selection is “Open Season” by Archer Mayor. New members are always welcome and all members are admitted free of charge. Drop in.
Rock, Roll, and READ! Magic Show with Mike Bent: Wednesday, June 27 at 1 p.m. Our summer reading program kicks off with magician, Mike Bent. This book themed show uses comedy, magic, music, sound effects, AND storytelling to motivate kids to get reading. Tickets ($2) for children and adults are available in the Children’s room. This program is for ages 4 and up.
Camp Read A-Lot: Wednesday, June 27 at 6:30 p.m. This free program is for ages 3-7. Register for this program through the Youth Services Department (978) 399-2302.
Teen & Tween Fun Food Competition: Thursday, June 28 at 2 p.m. This free program is for students entering 5th through 12th Grade. Pre-register through the YA Zone web page or contact the Youth Services Department at 978-399-2302.
