Merrimack Repertory Theatre will present a developmental reading of Sean Daniels’ stage adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s The Haunted Life at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Comley-Lane Theatre at UMass Lowell.

Admission to the reading is free, but an RSVP at www.mrt.org is required.

The reading will be directed by Daniels, Artistic Director of MRT and writer of the play The White Chip, and christopher oscar peña, and presented in partnership with the UMass Lowell’s Theatre Arts Program and Department of English. UMass Lowell Associate Professor Todd Tietchen, editor of The Haunted Life and Other Writings, will serve as consultant on the play. Michelle Volansky will be the dramaturg.

A deeply-felt drama, The Haunted Life follows the coming of age story of college student Peter Martin and his relationship with his conservative father. Taking place during America’s last golden summer before entering World War II, it chronicles the cost of war on a small town – Lowell.

MRT will produce the world premiere, fully-staged version of The Haunted Life, directed by Daniels and peña, March 20 to April 14, 2019, at the Nancy L. Donahue Theatre at Liberty Hall. For tickets and information, residents can visit mrt.org.  The production is sponsored by Enterprise Bank with media sponsors WBUR Public Radio, WCAP Radio, and Merrimack Valley Magazine, and is produced in collaboration with the Estate of Jack Kerouac.

PlayPenn of Philadelphia and Playwrighting Center of Theatre Emory in Atlanta will host later developmental readings of the play.

Some parking will be available behind the Comley-Lane Theatre, 870 Broadway. Additional parking will be available in the lot on the northeast corner of Broadway and Wilder Streets (entrance on Broadway).

For information about the reading or the production of The Haunted Life, visit mrt.org or contact the MRT Box Office at 978-654-4678.
