UPDATE — The Middlesex District Attorney’s office has confirmed that the body of an adult woman was discovered late this morning in the vicinity of 104 Providence Road, Westford.

Middlesex DA spokesman Elizabeth Vlock stated in an email that police responded to a call at about 11:41 a.m., Feb. 2, where a body was discovered on the roadside. Police are treating it as a “suspicious death based on the location and that the female was not dressed in appropriate clothing for the cold temperatures,” Vlock stated in a statement sent to WestfordCAT News at 3:34 p.m. today.

An active investigation is ongoing and foul play has not been ruled out, Vlock stated. The body has not been identified.

WestfordCAT News will update this developing story.

Westford Police shut down part of Providence Road near Drew Crossing this afternoon, Feb. 2. A police dispatcher confirmed the road closure but referred all other questions to the Middlesex District Attorney’s office, which did not answer the phone or provide an emergency number.

Facebook postings on the Westford Friends page and a brief story on the NECN.com website said a body had been discovered. WestfordCAT is unable to confirm this information at this time.

Updates will be provided.
