State Rep. James Arciero, a Westford Democrat, recently met with Director Ellen Rainville of Westford’s  J.V. Fletcher Library  to discuss critical state funding for libraries in the upcoming state budget.

The fiscal 2020 state budget contains $29.3 million for public libraries.

Specifically, the funding  sought would  be dedicated to state aid allocated to municipalities for their local libraries, funds for the state’s regional public libraries, support for the nine automated library networks and funds for the two Talking Book libraries at Perkins and in Worcester which serve over 25,000 blind and visually impaired patrons in Massachusetts.

The new fiscal year begins July 1.
