A look at the Westford Valley Marketplace reveals that hundreds of square feet remain unoccupied.
In October, 12 out of 30 storefronts were vacant at the Westford Valley Marketplace.
At the time, Andy LaGrega, a principal of the Boston-based Wilder Companies, said he and his partners were negotiating three leases for three new tenants.” He expected the new businesses to take possession after Jan. 1, he said, but so far, only a T-Mobile storefront seems to be new to the retail shopping center.
Papa Gino’s Restaurant closed abruptly this past fall and LaGrega said that he and his colleagues had been in discussion over the past two years with restaurant officials to end the restaurant’s lease early. The restaurant’s departure increased the capacity of the plaza’s septic system and freed Wilder to bring in more businesses with services that couldn’t be purchased over the Internet, such as boutique fitness shops and trendier restaurants, LaGrega said.
Out of 3 million square feet of total commercial space in Westford, about 341,000 square feet were empty on Oct. 1, according to Sam Palmer of Westford Real Estate. Palmer used data from the Costar Commercial Group to gauge Westford’s commercial occupancies.
