What’s Happening at the J.V. Fletcher Library

The Friends February Book Sale is on the horizon: The sale takes place on Friday, Feb. 8, Saturday, Feb. 9 and Sunday, Feb. 10. A Friends Members Only Sale will be held on Friday evening from 6:30 to 9 p.m. A Friends membership (which may be purchased at the door) is necessary for attending the preview sale. The entire public is invited Saturday for an all-day sale, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and to the special half price extravaganza on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m.

New Database: BookBrowse: Readers looking for their next great read may find it at “BookBrowse,” a guide to books.  Users can search for book information by theme, read-alikes, book club resources, articles and review.  This new database can be accessed from the library or from home with a Westford Library card number.

Advanced Snap Circuits and Takeaparts: Friday, Feb. 1 from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. There are five Snap Circuits kits to play with: RC Cars, Light, Motion, Arcade, and 3D Illumination. Users can preregister online. This free program is for children in grades 3 to 5.

Lego® Club: Sat., Feb. 2 from 2 to 3 p.m. All creations will be displayed in the library until the next time we meet. Free drop-in for ages 5 and up with parent or caregiver.

Teens and Tween Make & Take Mondays: Monday, Feb. 4 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Each Monday teens will participate in a variety of hands-on activities that will include making seasonal crafts, exploring STEAM activities, and creating one-of-a-kind masterpieces. All materials will be provided at the program in the Library’s Meeting Room. This is a free, drop-in event. Attendees need not register.

Adult Nonfiction Book Club: Tuesday, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m. Is truth stranger than fiction? Is it more entertaining? Readers will find out in the Adult Nonfiction Book Club. The group meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. in the Mary Atwood Room. Dates and book titles can be found on the website and at the Information Desk. The Feb. 5 book discussion will be Seinfeldia: How a Show About Nothing Changed Everything by Jennifer K. Armstrong. Copies are available at Main Desk.Attendees need not register.

Harry Potter Book Night: Celebrating Hogwarts: Thursday, Feb. 7 from 4 to 8 p.m. It’s all things Hogwarts at the library. The staff of the J.V. Fletcher Library will be on hand to provide a spellbinding experience celebrating the magic of J.K. Rowling’s books – there will be plenty of picture opportunities, magical games, and enchanting activities throughout the library. This program is for the whole family and is funded by the Friends of the J.V. Fletcher Library.

Stony Brook Middle School Book Club: Wednesday, Feb. 13 from 2 to 3 p.m. Library book club open to teens in grades 6 to 8 at the Stony Brook Middle School with snacks and hands-on activities. The group meets once a month from Sept.-May. This month we will be reading Magnus Chase: The Sword of Summer by Rick Riorden. Readers can sign-up at the Stony Brook Middle School with the school librarian, Mrs. Smith.
