The Friends of the J. V. Library, Inc. June Book Sale is on the horizon: Friday, June 7, Saturday, June 8 and Sunday, June 9. A Friends Members Only Sale will be held on Friday evening from 6:30 to 9 p.m. A Friends membership (which may be purchased at the door) is necessary for attending the Members Only Sale. The entire public is invited to the all day Saturday sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and to the Sunday half-price extravaganza sale from 2 to 4 p.m. The June Book Sale offers the perfect opportunity to stock up on vacation and summer reading.
Teen & Tween Advisory Board Meeting: Saturday, May 11 at 3 p.m. Teens join the Library’s Teen and Tween Advisory Board and provide input for our Teen and Tween Summer Reading Program and support to the young adult librarian. No experience necessary, but participants must be in grades 6 and up and live in Westford or their parent must be a member of the Friends of the Library. The meeting(s) will be held in the Children’s Story Hour Room. This is a free, drop-in event. Registration not required.
Knitting Group: Monday, May 13 at 3 p.m. The informal knitting group meets in the Mary Atwood Room on the second Monday of every month from 3 to 5 p.m. AND the fourth Monday of every month from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The group will not meet on the fourth Monday in May due to Memorial Day. This is a drop-in program that is open to all ages. Those with questions are asked to call Sarah Regan at 978-399-2309.
Cookbook Club: Thursday, May 16 at 7 p.m. The Cookbook Club explores cookbooks and samples new recipes. We meet on the third Thursday of each month. The May choice is King Solomon’s Table by Joan Nathan. Copies will be available for check out at the Main Desk. No registration required.
Ukulele Strum Along: Saturday, May 18 at 2 p.m. Learn to play by playing. Focusing on two and three chord songs, this program is for the beginner ukulele player who wants to practice and play music with others. Singing is encouraged. Ukuleles available to borrow, songs projected onto a screen so no music stands or books necessary. This program is open to adults and teens. Participants can register here or in the Information Services Department to borrow a ukulele. Those with their own ukulele can just drop in.
Official launch of the library 2019 StoryWalk® at the Westford Community Garden: Tuesday, May 21 at 10:30 a.m. Hop, skip, walk, jump, and run to each page of our book Luke and the Little Seed, by Giuliano Ferri at the Westford Community Garden located at 44 Graniteville Road. After the group reads around the perimeter of the garden, the children will plant a seed to take home with them. This FREE program celebrates the first anniversary of the library StoryWalk®. StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with Kellogg Hubbard Library.
Look for the Library’s entry in the Apple Blossom Parade on Saturday, May 18. The highly anticipated annual Westford Kiwanis Sponsored Apple Blossom Parade will march along Main Street for the 51st time. Traditionally this is the event where the Library Children’s Department entry in the Parade “announces” the theme for their upcoming Children’s Summer Reading Program.
Monday Mystery Book Club: Monday, May 20 at 10:30 a.m. The group meets on the fourth Monday morning of each month at 10:30 a.m. in the Mary Atwood Room. The meeting is one week early in May due to Memorial Day. The May selection is Gorky Park by Martin Cruz Smith. Copies of the current selection are available for check-out at the Main Desk. New members are always welcome. No registration required.
Middle School Book Club (Blanchard): Wednesday, May 22 at 2 p.m. Library book club open to Blanchard Middle School teens in grades six to eight. Students actively participate in book discussion and hands-on activities once a once a month until May 2019 at the Blanchard Middle School Learning Commons. This month the group read A Face Like Glass by Frances Hardinge. Those interested can sign-up at the Blanchard Middle School with the school librarian, Mrs. Brandt.
No-Knead Bread Making with Denali Delmar: Thursday, May 30 at 6:30 p.m. Craisin pecan bread? Asiago cheese bread? Anadama bread? Residents can join in to sample these delicious breads while veteran baker Denali Delmar shows how one can make these and other crusty artisan loaves.
