What an outcome for a group of baseball players out of the town of Westford.  These U12 Westford Junior Ghosts won the Championship on the New England Elite Baseball league (U12 Division 2) on June 9.

In doing so, they beat out nearly 40 other teams from around New England, most of which are not town teams (like Westford) but instead club teams comprised of all star baseball talent from numerous surrounding towns.

The Ghosts went 22-6 this season and an even more unlikely 7-0 in the playoffs en route to their first ever championship.

They beat “Rivals Navy” in the Championship game on Sunday 4-3.

The Junior Ghost program was created in Westford six years ago in an effort to keep talented baseball players playing baseball competitively in town, rather than seeking AAU programs around the area. While competing with all the big towns and club teams seemed like an uphill battle, the perseverance, teamwork and hard work finally paid off this year with the gold, championship trophy for the Westford boys. These boys, just one of four Junior Ghost teams in Westford, now have the benefit of playing competitively and together as a team right through high school.

They may be a team to be reckoned with for years to come.
