• 23-mile timed bike ride – starts at 10 a.m.
• 50-mile timed bike ride – starts at 8:30 a.m.

Lowell Police cadets will join the road race.

The Ride/Run for Liv honors the memory of Olivia Marchand, a college-bound Westford Academy senior who in 2010 was killed in a tragic act of domestic violence. According to police, Olivia’s father, Bryan Marchand shot and killed himself after fatally injuring his daughter. Olivia’s mother, Jody Marchand, was critically injured in the same attack. A bullet entered her temple, shattered her jaw and lodged in her shoulder.

Jody founded the Live for Liv Foundation to raise awareness of domestic violence. A portion of the proceeds raised by the foundation goes to Alternative House a Lowell shelter for victims of domestic violence.

This year the foundation also awarded scholarships of $1,500 each to two Westford Academy seniors.

“The Ride/Run is the best day of the year for Jody,” said Live for Liv Foundation president, Carol Murphy. “She…wants to educate as many people as she can to prevent this from happening to other people.”
