Friends of the J.V. Fletcher Library Annual Meeting with Featured Speaker Marianne Leone: Thu., Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. Join us in the Meeting Room for the Friends Annual Meeting at 7 p.m., followed by this year’s featured speaker, Marianne Leone, at 7:30 p.m. This event is free and open to the public, although you must be a Friends member to vote during the Annual Meeting. Marianne Leone is an actress, screenwriter, essayist, and author. Her unforgettable memoir of joy, grief, and triumph, Jesse, tells the story of her son’s life and chronicles her transformation by his remarkable life and untimely death. Her second memoir, Ma Speaks Up, recounts the story of her outspoken, frequently outrageous Italian immigrant mother. Her essays and op-ed pieces have appeared in the Boston Globe, WBUR’s Cognoscenti blog, and The Bark magazine. She had a recurring role on HBO’s hit series “The Sopranos” as Joanne Moltisanti, Christopher’s mother, and has appeared in films by John Sayles, David O. Russell, Nancy Savoca, and Martin Scorsese. Open to all.

 Make & Take Mondays: Nov. 4. Imagine, create, and Participate! Each Monday from 3:30 to 4:30 pm Teens and Tweens can participate in a variety of hands-on activities that include making fun, seasonal crafts and exploring STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) activities. This is a FREE drop – in event for Teens and Tweens in Grades 5 to 12, registration is NOT required.

Adult Nonfiction Book Club: Tue., Nov. 5 at 7 p.m.  The group meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. in the Mary Atwood Room. Dates and book titles can be found on the website and at the Information Desk. The Nov. 5 book discussion will be American Lion by Jon Meacham. Copies are available at Main Desk.  Advanced Snap Circuits and Take-aparts: Friday, Nov. 8 from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. The library has five Snap Circuits kits to play with: RC Cars, Light, Motion, Arcade, and 3D Illumination. Preregister online. This free program is for children in grades 3 to 5.

Adventures in Microgreens: Sat., Nov. 9 at 10:30 a.m. Those wondering how to garden during the winter are welcome to attend an informative and hands-on class with gardener and teacher Judith Taylor that will explore the benefits of growing and eating microgreens. Attendees will get step-by-step instructions on how to grow microgreens, and create their own microgarden to take home. Residents can register here or call 978-399-2304.

Lego® Club: Saturday, Nov.  9 from 2 to 3 p.m. Lego buffs can create something fun with Library Legos®. All creations will be displayed in the library until the next time we meet. Free drop-in for ages 5 and up with parent or caregiver.

Adult Book Club: Thu., Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m. Join us to discuss Heartland  by Sarah Smarsh. Copies of the current reading selection are available for check-out at the Main Desk.  New members are always welcome! Check out our Reading List.

TWEEN OZOBOTS CLUB: Fri., Nov. 15 at 3:30 p.m. Attendees can learn to code and explore with Ozobots: teeny tiny robots with BIG possibilities. Monthly Fridays from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Grades 5-8. Registration required for this free program.

 Roger Williams Park Zoo Pass: “Lions, and tigers, and bears, Oh My!” The Friends of the Library funded pass for the zoo admits up to 4 people based on availability. Those interested can visit the museum passes page on the website or call the Library for reservations at978.692.5555.

Database of the Week – Gale OneFile: Nursing & Allied Health : Search academic journals and other reference content covering all aspects of the nursing profession, from direct patient care to health care administration. Researchers can check out the Databases page to learn more.
