In this time of unprecedented uncertainty and ensuring the town’s continued prominence, we need a strong town leader like Anita Tonakarn-Nguyen on our Select Board who can build bridges and connect all segments of our community.
I have worked with Anita over the past year with the League of Women Voters and have watched her bring a fresh voice to the organization, suggesting new insights to old problems.  As an independent Health Policy Consultant Anita also understands the need to establish priorities, and would bring vital negotiation and decision making skills to the Select Board.  I know that she is a strong advocate for transparency and accountability.
Previously, Anita’s experience included building public and private partnerships to improve employment opportunities for people with disabilities in Massachusetts.  With that in mind, she joined the Westford Commission on Disability working to improve services to town residents and people with disabilities.  This is a mutual beneficial partnership as she is able to contribute a state and national perspective, while learning more about local needs.
She has demonstrated a passion for building and retaining strong, ethnically diverse communities as demonstrated by her role as Chair of the Cultural Council.  As well, she continues to be an active, civic oriented resident contributing her voice to many town efforts, including our School Department and parents. Through this process, Anita has acquired a broad-based knowledge of town operations, and an appreciation of the budget constraints the town continues to face, while balancing the needs of each segment of our population with town priorities.  She is a strong female role model for leadership in our community, and a bridge builder with unbounded energy while balancing her career and young family.  She will apply that same energy and drive to this town.  I ask that you vote for her! — Diane Wood, Westford, Mass.
