NOTES FROM THE SELECT BOARD MEETING

SPECIAL TOWN MEETING

•Town Moderator Angela Harkness asked Select Board members to move the opening of special Town Meeting from 10 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Oct. 17. The meeting will take place outdoors due to the lingering pandemic virus. The board will take up the matter at their next meeting on September 29 at 7 p.m.

Flu Clinics

•The town’s flu clinics will be held on October 8, 15, and 22. Visit Westford Residents Flu Clinic Schedule for more information.

CULTURAL COUNCIL GRANT

•Select Board member Anita Tonakarn-Nguyen announced that the Cultural Council grant cycle applications will be available beginning Oct. 1 through mid-November. For more information visit the Westford Cultural Council.

HEALTH ASSESSMENT SURVEY

•Select Board member Tom Clay encouraged residents to participate in the Westford Community Health Assessment Survey.

UPDATE ON DEI COMMITTEE

•Select Board Chair Andrea Peraner-Sweet provided an update on the board’s efforts to create a Diversity Equity and Inclusion Committee. Peraner-Sweet encouraged interested residents to complete a Citizen Activity Form. There are also a few interview questions applicants are asked to complete. The deadline for submissions is September 29 at 4 p.m. The board members said they expect to make appointments beginning October 5.

CONCERT ON THE COMMON

•Select Board members unanimously approved a request by resident Alice Dorothy Phalen to use the town Common for a concert performance by Bonnie Anderson and Stella Owen from 1 to 6 p.m. The approval is contingent on public safety recommendations. The rain date is Sunday, Oct. 4.

A NEW BUSINESS IN TOWN

•A new business is coming to Cornerstone Square. Godly Smoothies, LLC, owned by Latchezar “Lucky” Popov, was approved unanimously for a Common Victualler License at 8 Cornerstone Square, former location of the Rangoli Grill.

PUBLIC HEARING

•A request for a transfer of an alcohol license from Shree Ganesh Corporation, 6 Carlisle Road, to Narayanswarup Corporation was unanimously approved.

JOINT MEETING — SCHOOL AND FINANCE

•Members of the School and Finance Committees attended the earlier part of the meeting when Superintendent Bill Olsen updated the boards on the expense of re-opening schools while protecting students from COVID-19.
