One Cambridge company wants to spread the word to Westford families that there are plenty of foreign exchange students out there just looking for a place to stay in Westford this fall.

GP Homestay was announced as Westford Academy’s new contractor regarding foreign exchange students earlier this year and they are seeking new families to host foreign exchange students, mainly from China.

Interested families receive a stipend of $7,000 and are required to provide transportation, space and meals for the exchange student.

Julie Guthrie, Residential Coordinator for GP Homestay, says that most families participating in their programs elsewhere serve as host families multiple times, although there is apprehension at times from parents over trying to help the students and not knowing what to do.

“I think what makes us unique is the support we offer the families,” she says. “If there’s an issue on the weekend or at night or they’re unsure about something, we’re here to help them in any way.”

As of mid-July, three families have signed up to host foreign exchange students this fall, but there currently is no cap.
