The Westford Public Schools issued an announcement this week that all school volunteers will need to submit to fingerprint background checks at the discretion of the school district.
Unlike Criminal Record Offender Information (CORI) background checks, the fingerprint check is a one-time requirement, but the School Department has concluded that all field trip chaperones and volunteer athletic coaches will be required to complete the fingerprint obligation in addition to the CORI check.
The move comes after a new state law last year requiring fingerprint checks for all public school employees in Massachusetts.

Fees cost $35 to undergo the process and the Provider ID for Westford Public Schools is 03260000.
