The Nabnasset Lake Preservation Association announced that it has performed a copper sulfate pentahydrate treatment of Nabnasset Lake on Thursday at approximately 1 p.m.
Performed by Aquatic Control Technology of Sutton, the treatment is geared toward targeting the growth of algae blooms.
The lake is currently closed for all purposes and will be reopened on Friday, Aug. 1 at 8 a.m.
In a separate statement, the Westford Board of Health indicated that the use of copper sulfate is fairly common in industrial fish farming elsewhere in the country, and does not generally cause allergies.
