8:44 p.m. – Jodi Ross then asked the board to declare the Graniteville Fire Station as surplus property for sale.
The Permanent Town Building Committee has advised this be done twice in the past.
Siriani asked if this is the normal process. Jodi Ross said yes, saying that this was a goal from last year’s Board of Selectmen and that there was no need for this building, that it has just been housing “stuff” for many years.
It is worth approximately $300,000.
There is a septic issue at the property that may impact putting a house there. However, Jodi Ross said that the American Legion next door may be interested in the building for storage.
Siriani had another concern regarding input from neighbors. Jodi Ross said that she had not been in contact with the neighbors, although it had been discussed for several years. However, she said that they could be contacted.
An auction of surplus property was coming up on July 10, with Mangiaratti said that the auction would be held at auctionsurplus.com
Last year the Bookmobile was sold for $12,000 and sent to Mexico.
The auction will occur until July 31.
Siriani asked if there were acceptable uses for the property that could be recommended by neighbors.
Jodi Ross said she’d be happy to notify neighbors, and that this discussion could be delayed until July 22.
8:52 p.m. – Jodi Ross praised Mangiaratti for the recent announcement that MIAA has helped receive $37,880 in risk management trainings and initiatives.
Mangiaratti then requested that public processing of auctionsurplus.com be used so people didn’t have to come to town hall, which caused extra work last year.
This would also allow credit cards to be used.
Other nearby towns had success with this method.
Siriani talked about a recent overhaul of removing surplus of materials. He asked if the town had looked at current state law.
Mangiaratti said that MGL 30B is what is followed. A newspaper advertisement needed to be made two weeks in advance of the closing of the auction, and that a notice would need to be made on the town website.
Siriani said that this would cost us nothing, but Kelly Ross said that it might cost a little due to a buyer’s premium for paying a fee, which was still fine. However, Mangiaratti said that there was a premium last year.
Kelly Ross made a motion to approve the request, it was unanimously approved.
A motion was made to unanimously waive reading of correspondence. The meeting was adjourned.
