WYBA Week One Sees Black Squad, Tissues Bounce Back After Early Losses

WYBAHigh School Girls – Hippies 22, Hot Pink Chili Peppers 13

In the match-up of the Hippies versus the Hot Pink Chili Peppers, the Hippies came out with strong defense led by Ali Loftus and Katie Long, supported by strong offense provided by Sam Wylie and Amanda Charloton. The Chili Peppers were led by Amy Cavanaugh, Cassie Bernardo and Yamini Kumar.

High School Girls – Redcoats 35, Tissues 21

The Redshirts and the Tissues got the 2014-2015 High School Girls Rec season started with a fast-paced affair, with the Redshirts coming on top 35 to 21. For the Redshirts, Leah Bushey and Katie Fitzsimmons each had nine points to lead the scoring. They were supported by Maeli Cherry with five points, Hannah Kruger with four and Corey Mains and Jackie Joncas each chipping in a basket each. Olivia Morin led the scoring for the Tissues with a game high 11 points.

High School Girls – Hollaback Girlz 36 Dolphins 30

In a very evenly matched game, the Hollaback Girlz pulled out a tough victory at the end over the Dolphins. Abby Chirokas led the scoring for the Dolphins with 18 points, but the Hollaback Girlz countered with tough defense from Caroline Dolan and Lauren Cullen leading to their win. Katie Ross provided 12 points for the victors, supported by Tori Weiss with eight. Great first game for both teams.

High School Girls – Red Shirts 24, Blue Flames 11

In a low scoring Red Shirts vs. Blue Flames contest the Red Shirts topped the cold shooting Flames team 24 – 11.  The game started off with Jessie Wilkinson easily winning the opening tip by swatting the ball to a wide-open teammate but in a preview of the night ahead of them, they were unable to convert the uncontested layup.  Both teams showed early season rust by missing numerous layups and open shots throughout the night.  However, the Red Shirts were able to use their defensive and rebounding intensity to create more shot opportunities than the Blue team and as a result were also able to outscore them.  The Red Shirts were led by Emily Perrone and Leah Bushey on offense with 6 points each, while Cory Mains, Jackie Jonas, and Katie Fitzsimmons had 4 points apiece, with Prachi Jhawar adding a basket.  The Red team was led on offense by Megan Lawlor and Rachel Hall.

High School Girls – Tissues 32, Black Squad 18

Coming on strong in their second game of the year, the Tissues played a consistent and balanced game to claim vicotry over the Black Squad. Olivia Antonelli led a very balanced offense with ten, followed by Olivia Morin with 8 and Megan Bramanti and Danielle Roder both with four points. For the Black Squad, Juliette Noone contributed six points to lead a team effort in which every player scored.

High School Girls – Black Squad 26, Shamrocks 23

The Black Squad pulled out a close, hard fought victory, squeaking by the Shamrocks after a game that went back and forth all night. Kayla Rachon and Juliette Noone let the offese for the Blak Squad, while Lauren Flynn contributed mightily on the boards. Sam Kingston supported the Squad with numerous assists. The Shamrocks were led in scoring by Kelliann Cooper and Jaquelyn Andry, with Emily Doolan doing a great job in ball handling and Melissa Oram strong on the glass.
