Teen Dies Following Ski Accident At Nashoba Valley Ski Area

A 13-year-old boy sustained fatal injuries on Saturday afternoon as the result of a collision with a tree at Nashoba Valley Ski Area.

Nashoba Valley Ski AreaThe incident occurred in an area between the Lobo and Tomahawk trails, two of the ski area’s more difficult trails.

He was wearing a helmet during the incident and the ski patrol was on the scene within minutes.

The boy was evacuated at approximately 2:20 p.m. and transported to Lowell General Hospital, where he was later declared deceased.

According to a statement from Nashoba Valley Ski Area General Manager Al Fletcher, this was the first ski-related fatality of which he was aware in the ski area’s history.

“All of us are deeply shaken by this incident, ” said Fletcher. “Our hearts are with his family. We can only imagine what they’re going through.”

The incident is still under investigation.

Traumatic incidents occur approximately four-to-six times per year on average out of the 11,000 ski runs per season.
