A 20-year-old resident of Vail,Colorado, Irwin is a member of the U.S. Ski Team’s C Team, a division for up and coming skiers, as well as their Europa Cup Speed Team.

She is just one level below American Olympians, but getting that level can take $30,000 a year in fundraising just to compete.

Irwin’s family has known Nashoba Valley Ski Area’s Pam Fletcher, who competed in the 1988 Winter Olympics.

“It’s a pretty big deal to get a headgear sponsorship, it helps out with fundraising and costs and it’s great to get it from a smaller ski area,” said Irwin.

On Sunday, Irwin helped young skiers in the Buddy Warner League, a youth skiing competition at the hill.

“I have dreams of the Olympics, I grew up as a young racer dreaming of the Olympics,” she said. “I think for these kids, seeing someone at a higher level who’s getting closer to it can be really inspiring.”

In 2014, Irwin jumped to third in NorAm Cup downhill rankings following ankle and hip surgery in the spring.
