New School Resource Officer at Westford Academy

7:30 p.m. – The meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance. There were no recognitions and no members of the public were in attendance for public forum.

Superintendent Olsen provided an informational update on several items.

7:39 p.m. – Members of the School Committee began to provide informational updates on various items.

School Committee Member Margaret Murray talked about a recent article in the Boston Globe and School Committee Member Arthur Benoit talked about the new school resource officer at Westford Academy following the promotion of the former SRO, Justin Agraz.

School Committee member Angela Harkness asked that the new SRO come to the School Committee to introduce himself to the community. Superintendent Bill Olsen said he would come to the next School Committee meeting.

Members of the School Committee noted that many people liked Agraz.

Westford Academy Principal Jim Antonelli said the new SRO, Jeff Pavao, started at the school after winter break and he is getting used to the school.

School Committee Chairman Tom Clay then said he has gotten e-mails regarding financial practices and said he’s comfortable with the town’s auditing practices.

Clay then said that the committee next week would look at MCAS results and the school utilization project.

He went onto other updates of upcoming meetings and other school-related events held in nearby towns in the near future.

7:50 p.m. – Student Representatives Will O’Neal and Julie Becker gave updates.

Murray asked a question to the students about the recent Chris Herren event in a story recently in the Westford Eagle. The students described how good it was and Murray noted that if there were limited resources, he should be brought back.

She then asked about a quilt made by students recently.

Benoit and School Committee Member David Keele and Olsen gave praise to Herren they had heard from their children and other students.

Keele then asked if the presentation could be put onto Westford Community Access Television, it was videotaped by Westford Academy’s Mark Miller.

Antonelli said that would have to be investigated.
