Tissues and Dolphins End WYBA Contest In Draw

Game Reports for Week Starting: January 5, 2015

Hippies 38 vs. Black Squad 22

This was a tough game that was closer than the final score indicated.  The emphasis was on defense for both teams.  Defensively the Hippies led by Lauren Canha, Ali Loftus, Amanda Charlton, Kaitlin Canha and Katie Long.  For the Black Squad, Kayla Rochon and Juliette Noone backboned the defense, with Shannon Harris doing the job on the offensive end.  Sam Wylie, Bridget Allison and Caroline Hurley provided the offense for the Hippies.

Dolphins 30 vs. Blue Flames 25

It was a hard fought game from both sides, with the Dolphins finally pulling out the win.  Hannah Chateauneuf led the Dolphins with 12 points, supported by Abby Chirokas and Julie Swanson with six each, and Sofia Marchetti contributing a key late basket.  For the Blue Flames, Megan Lawlor was “on fire” with 12 points, followed by McKenna Watson with eight, and Jessie Wilkinson contributing four points to go along with her tenacious defense and rebounding.

Hollaback Girlz 28 vs. Hot Pink Chili Peppers 13

The “Amy’s” – Amy Cavanaugh and Amy Doucette – along with Kayleigh McHugh played tough defense for the Chili Peppers, and Cassie Bernardo contributed five points, but it was not enough to stop the Hollaback Girlz from holla-ing to the win.  Caroline Dolan and Katie Ross led the Hollabacks with ten points each, supported by Tori Weiss, Mayble Wong, Caroline Campbell and Kynza Khimani with two each.

Tissues 32 vs. Dolphins 32

In a heated game between the Tissues and the Dolphins, points were scored, fouls were given and legacies were made.  Highlights included Olivia Antonelli who ended the game with two points but was strong on defense, and Abby Chirokas who had a game high 12 points.  After a close game the Tissues finally pulled away with the help of Olivia Moran and Dani Mendonca who played like a beast down low.

Hot Pink Chili Peppers 21 vs. Shamrocks 13

The Chili Peppers rebounded from a tough Monday loss, to overtake the Shamrocks 21 to 13 in a game that was a battle for the full 28 minutes.  Great team and individual defense dominated the game along with furious rebounding.  Scoring for the Chili Peppers was led by Amy Cavanaugh (9) and Cassie Bernardo (8) with Yamini Kummar contributing four points also.  The Shamrock’s balanced scoring was led by Leah Donovan with five points, Jackie Andry with four and Kelliann Cooper and Kathleen McCarthy both chipping in with two.

Fireballs 19 vs. Hippies 18

Leah Bushey fought through back pain all game and was able to manage only a single point.  That point was the difference as the Fireballs edged a very tough Hippies team 19 to 18.  Although the Hippies were able to get off to an early lead and hold it through most of the game they were never able to widen the gap.  This allowed the scrappy Fireballers to hang around until a couple of shots finally fell their way. The Fireballs were lead in scoring by Cory Mains and Emily Perrone with 7 points each.  Katie Fitzsimmons was also under the weather but toughed it out contributing a key basket in addition to her typical strong defensive effort at the top of the zone.  Hannah Kruger stepped up her game on both ends of the floor to help the Fireballers fight back after they trailed most of the game.  Prachi Jhawar was also instrumental in helping shut down the well-balanced Hippies offense in the second half.  Bridget Allison was the high scorer with 6 points for the Hippies as well as an absolute force on defense and the boards.  Sam Wylie had 4 points off of the fast break while Katie Long, Amanda Charlton, Morgan Dougherty, and Caroline Hurley each added a basket.
