Westford’s own Leslie Thomas was recently named as an unsung heroine by the State of Massachusetts’ Commission on the Status of Women for her efforts supporting the town of Westford over a span of decades.
The award is given each year to women across the Commonwealth that contribute their time, talent and efforts to keeping communities running.
In addition to 20 years serving on the Westford Water Commission, Thomas also was on the Planning Board for ten years, served on the Master Plan Committee, the Master Plan Implementation Committee and the Route 110 Master Plan Committee.
She was nominated for the award by State Representative James Arciero, who was honored to help provide recognition for Thomas’ efforts.
“Leslie is a wonderful person who has always given so much to the community she loves, Westford, volunteering countless hours for so many great causes, serving her fellow Westford citizens with such dedication, style and class,” said Arciero. “A true asset to Westford, her good deeds should be recognized and celebrated and being selected the 2015 Unsung Heroine from Westford bears testimony to her many positive contributions and results.”
Since the award’s inception in 2004, other Westford Unsung Heroines have included Helena “Mickey” Crocker (2013), Judith Ramirez (2012), Nancy Cook (2011), Gloria Gilbert (2010), Catherine Bartholomew Ricketson (2010), Patricia Mason (2009), Diane Healy (2007) and Ellen Rainville (2006).
