Old Tests, New Tests, and Changed Tests, Oh My! Most current high school students have been taking standardized tests since elementary school.  Whether it is an MCAS, PARCC, Stanford 9, or other exam, it is routine for some of them by now, except the stakes are higher.  With College Board unveiling the brand new SAT and PSAT, what does that mean for students?  What about ACT? This session will addressing the changes in the test, comparing tests and how testing factors into the post-secondary educational process. August 3, Wednesday, 7 to 8:30 p.m. $24/$21 per individual, $29/$26 per family.

 

Examining the Essay: The college application essay is frequently a determining factor for admission, but often the one part of the application most put off by students.  The workshop will discuss ways to go about writing the essay, the do’s and don’ts of the college essay, and other tips concerning writing and the college application.  We will examine essay prompts, including the changes to the Common Applications. August 10, Wednesday7 to 8:30 p.m., $24/$21 per individual, $29/$26 per family.

           

Be A Basketball Phenomenon: Middle schoolers (Grades 5 and Up) will learn the proper way to shoot, pass, dribble, and defend the ball. This clinic will teach each student the mechanics and how to apply them to basketball. Learn to shoot correctly, pass correctly, play defense correctly, and practice on your own. Instructor Souleymane Wane played at UConn from 1997-2001, during which he helped UConn win its first National Championship. Upon graduating in 2001, he spent several years in Asia and Europe, playing professional basketball.  August 19 to September 23, 6 Fridays, 7 to 8 p.m. $158/$155.

 

Beginner’s Guitar One Night Workshop: Learn the fundamentals of tuning and caring for you instrument.  You will be taught how to hold the pick and read chord diagrams, as well as simple strum patterns. August 16, Tuesday 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. $36/33.

 

CPR Certification and CPR Recertification: All classes include lecture, mannequin practice, and American Heart Association completion card.  Defibrillation is included in training.  These classes do not meet the requirements for Health Care Provider or Professional Rescue Certification.  $12 book fee due at first class.  Registration cutoff is July 28.

Adult CPR, August 3, Wednesday, 6:30 to 8:15 p.m. Cost: $50/$47.

Adult and Pediatric CPR August 3, Wednesday, 6:30 to 10 p.m. Cost: $59/$56.

 

Summer Gymnastics Fun Half Day and Full Day: Learn gymnastic skills while running through obstacle course, swing on the bars, balancing on the beam, and playing games. Crafts project and group activities. Sessions throughout summer (See www.roudenbush.org)
