The magenta signs routing Boston Road traffic onto Lincoln Street are hard to miss.
“New Traffic Pattern Ahead” tells drivers coming up Boston Road to Westford Center that something is brewing. White reflective markers, provided through a pedestrian safety grant from CircleHealth, were placed along the curb to indicate a new arc for the right turn onto Lincoln Street.
The markers were set out by the Highway Department to test whether the proposed new curb extension in front of the Parish Center for the Arts allows the hook and ladder and snow plows to still make the turn.
The answer, “Yes they can.”
The engineering was done by BETA Engineering which was hired by town officials. The cost to build the curb extension will be paid by the non-profit Parish Center for the Arts and the Common Restoration Project.
The Parish Center for the Arts has sent the engineering specifications to local paving contractors and asked for bids. With a low enough bid and good weather, the permanent granite curbing and new, relocated cross walk from the Common to the PCA will be installed this fall.
