The holiday season of giving kicked off Dec. 1 in Westford with State Rep. James Arciero’s joint effort with the U.S. Marine Reserve Corps collecting toys for underprivileged children.
The Toys for Tots program distributes the gifts during the holiday season to ensure all families have a joyous Christmas, according to the website.
“The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens,” states the mission.
Arciero said “hundreds and hundreds” of gifts were donated to the program.
In addition, he and co-chairman Nancy Cook and an army of volunteers raised funds for the Lowell Sun’s Santa fund through a silent auction and raffle. More than $15,000 was raised this season, according to Arciero.
